Remembrance Day at ERS

Posted on 2022-11-08 08:00:00 +0000 UTC

Parents and Guardians of Eagle River Secondary School:

I wanted to send this note home as an information item as well as a request. Our Remembrance Day Ceremony at Eagle River Secondary takes place tomorrow, and as a school we are walking down to the cenotaph for the ceremony. There will be veterans and students leading the event, and it will be an important reminder of what those before us have sacrificed, and what others are now doing to allow us to be free and safe in this amazing country.

The reminder is that it is supposed to be cold, and we are hoping that you will ensure that your child leaves the house tomorrow with appropriate clothes. Winter jackets, proper footwear, hats that cover their ears and some gloves will be imperative for their comfort on a day that is supposed to be below zero from start to finish. There will not be staff staying behind at the school so all students will have to attend the ceremony. Please send them ready for the event.

The request is that you do not sign them out or give them permission to leave the event because they do not see the value. Though this event will be serious in nature and not an event based around fun, it is extremely important that young people hear this message, and know what November 11th is really about.

We truly appreciate your support.
